Traditional wood turning involves mounting a block of wood on a lathe and turning it to the desired shape/profile, whether thats a bowl, vase, plate, etc.

There is a more modern way to turn wood - segmented wood turning. The process involves drawing a plan, planning each layer and then gluing together segments of wood together to create the layer. By putting the layers together, the piece is constructed.

While this process is time consuming, the final product is worth the extra work! Wood waste is reduced and designs can be incorporated into the piece using contrasting wood species. Material, such as shredded currency, confetti and colored pencils, embedded in dyed epoxy can be used as well.
